" ORDINARY FOLKS GARDENING<<<a preliminary title

(preliminary) PREFACE II

We are ordinary, everyday folk living in this tumultuous world in 2012 with over seven billion other humans. We are gardeners first, who use home computers via the internet to communicate on a forum called The Easy Garden (TEG), or theeasygarden.com. We are not official representatives of TEG, though we are considering if this book project should become a part of this forum.
Knowing each other mainly through our pseudonyms, commonly in use in the early internet, none of us are professional gardening authors.
There are a lot of books about gardening, many specialized in their scope and content. There are books about roses, daffodils, or an excellent method of sustainability gardening. What we attempt to do here is create a book of wide-ranging applied gardening topics.
After a poster mused about the possibility of writing a collaborative gardening book, we began sharing to which topic or topics each would like to contribute. We quickly discovered that teaming interested members for various topics of gardening would be a good plan. Lacking a strong person for the lead editor position ... and hoping still that one will step forward... I, marshallsmyth, will attempt to get the book rolling.
The initial list of topics was huge, so some topics were combined. Being an initial list, there remains the possibility that other topics will yet be added.
This Ordinary Folks Gardening Book is being written to fill needs not found in any single book. We are all very different gardeners. There are some among us have attitudes on aspects of gardening very different than others. Having been on the minority side many times, and having felt very left out, we do not want the same thing happening here. All members are welcome to write a valid garden topic of special interest to them.
Some gardeners writing on topics are small farmers, while others have found room for a small garden in their urban situations and still others may have only window or balcony gardens in high apartments. We hope gardens of all sizes will be represented here.
There are few if any books that touch well on so many kinds of gardening, and certainly none written by the ordinary folk you might meet at your local store, the lady at the office front desk, the man driving a big rig, or the retired teacher. That's us. A lot us have chickens, rabbits, goats, dogs, cats, quail, or other assorted animals which may affect our gardening choices. There is no single gardening method espoused by those of us at TEG, and this book addresses that no single method idology. The reader may well find topics appropriate to their situation and new ways to gain some help, ideas, humor, or enjoyment.
This project is one small legacy through which we hope to share with other gardeners our love and stewardship of the Earth."
