Mate for life although some will transgress......

Did have some helmet pigeons join wild pigeons and leave.

Pigeons aren't great foragers and I don't remember their feed being cheap. Geese are cheap meat.

All the time wild flocks here always have a banded pigeon or 2. The homing pigeons join wild flocks fancy pigeons rare survive there bad flyers. I had fantails they would only fly a few feet. To many losses to hawks I rehomed them.

http://www.mickaboo.org/ bird rescue in San Francisco is always overwhelmed with king pigeons. They have live poultry markets, pigeons are only $5 people buy them and set them free. People see large flocks of wild pigeons in the city and think the one they set free will be fine. truth is kings being meat birds are very heavy make poor flyers they are also white so stand out to predators. Often injured and starved pigeons come into rescue. Problem will not end till live birds stop being sold.
