i'm not sure what you need to have done, but for a gardener having an old truck around that you don't mind getting dirty is a really nice thing to have. :)

of course around here it costs $ to insure and license, but the lowest price for insurance and plates, not too bad if it will get used.

we are lucky that my brother has an old truck that we can borrow. we're picking it up this week and going to be hauling wood chips for a few weeks (besides places we want to redo around the yard here Mom also has a friend she will be working on her gardens too).

for the price of getting things delivered those insurance and plate fees are paid for if you're doing more than a few loads.

i've no idea what you might be planning to do this year though in the gardens or ... :)
We have an extra old car that we've thought of selling but haven't. It's an old BMW that we bought for around $3,000 for my son to take to college. We only wanted it to last for a couple years. Well 7 years later that car refuses to die. We decided to keep it since it only costs us $600 in insurance. It comes in handy when one of our cars is in the shop. We figured we probably wouldn't get much for it. It has around 300,000 miles on it.

Me too. I WANT to dicker, but I'm really, really bad at it and I loathe it.[/QUOTE
There is dealership group in the Portland, Oregon Metro Area that advertises that you deal with one person start to finish, pay the listed price on the sticker , sign on the dotted line , all within one hour and out the door you go in all smiles . ( but what they don't tell you is that you are guarantied to overpay for the car for NOT negotiating price ) :th  :ep :rant

I've never test driven it, never seen one up close, only read about them. A Subaru Ascent. Blue. Leather. They just came out this year and I've always heard never to buy a brand new model - wait for a couple of years to see how it fairs...

I'll be ready in 2020 to think about buying one, based upon my budget. A used one. In Oregon where we have no sales tax!!

I can negotiate very well and successfully, within business parameters.

But put me in front of a car sales person, and I HATE IT!

that was a hoot.....
this morning went down to the bank to get a cashiers check, drove down to the dealership. well crap they are having a meeting with a nissan rep so took a seat and waited and listened to his talk, then he got into how many people do you think research a car before coming in 76% guess he saw me raise my hand.. guess how many research other deals 77% guess he saw raise my hand again.

finally the finance person showed up we had to go by the meeting, the rep stopped his talk.. excuse me sir i saw you raise your hand a couple times why?
the finance person introduced me and why i was there.... the rep asked if i did research on the car..?
yes sir i first started looking about 2 months ago and really liked the look of the pathfinder, highlander and pilot, not to close to the ground and not to big, i first started to look at used ones mainly 2016, but after looking at the price against the mileage on them for a couple more thousand i can purchase a new car with a warranty...

anyway narrowed it down to either a Highlander or pathfinder did research on the pro's and con's of both, both have basically the same ones nothing major

looked at the trim package/engine/ int/ext/options/safety on both. they where the same except highlander had a sunroof and they wanted 5k more..
yes i researched all the nissan dealers in a 50 mile radius on this exact model. vann york had the best internet price, and yes this is my 3rd car from here....
after some dickering we came to a agreeable price...

was there anything you did not like?...
yes one thing your extended warranty pricing way out of line....
how ?
i have a 3yr/36k warranty that comes with the car, for a basic extended it's 1900.00 10yr/100k extra. for my old altima with 31+k the extend was 650.00
you do the math i'm wasting or have double coverage for first 3 years...!

you have a good point....

off we went to do the final exchange of check and paperwork...walked out of the office the g/m stopped me said thank you for your input and handed me a 500.00 gift card...holy sh!t.

They will only sell guarantees on what they can assume won’t ever be used. Over my loud objections, daughter bought extended warranties-turned out to be $90 oil changes...... all the fluid switches were due AFTER the warranty wore off. I told the sales manager to not sell it to her (over phone) they did any way. He will pay for that some day.

the term "extended warranty" can by viewed as vague interpretation in some cases like @seedcorn went though.. "IF" you are considering on purchasing one make sure that both parties understand the meaning of "bumper to bumper" coverage and what it covers and what it does not cover...
