Yes, it was a tragedy! My heart goes out to all who were touched by this dastardly act, but let's take a wider view;

In 2010 (The latest year that statistics are readily available for.) there were, in the U.S. an average of:

90 deaths per day and 6,027 injuries per day caused by traffic accidents!!!

Kinda makes the Boston Marathon bombing look like a run in the park, doesn't it.

:hit :hit

Yes, I expect a lot of hate mail for pointing out this fact. :hide

.....it is a sad turn of events for the families that were hurt by this act of madness. And madness is what it is. The FBI is doing the investigation which makes the criminal who did this eligible for the death penalty, whereas if the state of Mass. was conducting the investigation, there is no death penalty.

Here is the only TEG post ever regarding "banning firearms."

http://www.theeasygarden.com/forum/search.php?search_id=1573359223

Here is the only TEG post ever with the words "Sandy Hook."

http://www.theeasygarden.com/forum/search.php?search_id=2009311164

We never talked about Sandy Hook here on TEG . . . you know why, because of the potential for political crap like this.

Old Guy, do you ever have time for gardening or just searching out things about the government that you can complain about?

This continues ---- I am out of TEG. Thank you.

I'm just going to say this because it was brought up, and I'll probably get some angry remarks.

When hubby and I were talking about this Monday night (and I was sobbing just as hard as I was during the Newtown massacre, blubbering off stuff that probably made no sense since it was all pure emotion), I made the off the wall comment it could have been someone with an NRA membership trying to take national attention off the gun debate and back onto terrorism.

Sorry if that bothers anyone, but my husband told me... "This world makes no sense, that sounds like it could really be true!"

And as for the sobbing, knowing there are TONS of deaths each day in this country, its because it was 'senseless'. It was no accident, mistake, over site or otherwise. It was someone with problems, who just wanted to see blood spill because some thought in their mass of tissue called a brain told them it was a good idea and to run with it.

I really don't want to 'debate' about something like this at all.

I want to say that I am sorry to the families, the people of Boston and anyone who hearts in their hurt like I do. I hope everyone realizes there is only room for love in a situation like this.

Steve, it's clear that this has been a sore spot. Perhaps you could just not read threads whose title suggests that it will be a blood pressure lifter? I'd really, really hate for you to not be here sharing your wit, humor and garden wisdom. :hugs

Boston bombing is a tragedy, no getting around it. Has more to do with person's mindset than weapon of choice for destruction. Hope he puts up fight so FBI can save us court time.

All these political discussions do is turn into an echo chamber of complaints.

Those who feel the most aggrieved just keep hammering away at it. It doesn't matter whether they are on the far left or the far right. They are aggrieved and just keep moaning - endlessly.

That is no good for a gardening forum. Religion and politics, want to talk about them - there are other forums.

It is good to be appreciated for "garden wisdom" in a gardening forum. I am at my wit's end with wing-nut politics.

Steve, have you noticed that I never comment on things other than gardening? For me, this place is a gardening forum.

Try not to let it bother you. I know it may be hard. You are very much appreciated and valued here. Don't even think about leaving!

Yes, please go find the appropriate forums out there to post stuff like this. This is insensitive and highly offensive and if you have to put "I'll probably get slammed for this" you can be pretty sure that it is TROLLING and you ought not speak it. Every human life is precious and one life lost is just as traumatic for that family, no matter the circumstances. It is asinine to go putting numbers and comparisons to it like that and the "run in the park" comment was particularly disgusting. :smack

First, I'm not clear on how you equate posting statistics with complaining about government. :hu

Second, you're always suggesting that there are "other forums". I challenge you to find one that has a following that is a wide cross section of the population like we have here.. Not right-wing, not left-wing, just folks of differing opinions.
