90 deaths per day and 6,027 injuries per day caused by traffic accidents!!!

Why? Because I wanted to demean the deaths and injuries suffered in Boston? Of course not! No right thinking person would be that insensitive. My point was, and still is that no one rushes into the President of the United States every day and announces, "90 people died and 6,027 were injured on the streets and highways of our great nation!" Does the President meet with the White House Press Corps everyday and announce ""Yes, we will find you. And yes, you will face justice," No! Where are the hours of national news coverage for all of those dead and injured? If your lucky and it's a slow news day you might get 2-3 minutes, at most on local news.

Why? Because we have become used to the fact that there are traffic accidents and deaths and maiming of all those victims. We're used to the fact that over half of those deaths will be caused by a drunk driver, and that the odds are roughly one in three that that said drunk driver will have been a repeat offender. It isn't until you lose a friend or loved one to a drunk driver that it becomes personal.
Have you ever sat at a traffic light and watched people in cars. I get this odd feeling when I am a passenger and I watch cars. I think about how many people and all going so fast and what would it have looked like in a big city 100 years ago, 500 years ago, and 1000 years ago. People took forever to go places, moving slowly in carts or walking. Can you imagine a 4 way stop in Dodge City with a horse and rider and each light? All these inventions that we think we need. I was a passenger a couple of months ago and saw a cat hit in the middle of the 4 lanes and half sitting up with its eyes closed. No way to stop. Already past the cat before really realizing what it was and my daughter was driving and I had my son. I am not sure anybody stopped. It was almost dark and a lot of cars. You would have to stop in the middle of the road almost dark. I think about how many hours people work to pay for cars, gas, insurance, and endanger their lives and other's lives to get somewhere fast. We have washing machines, dryers, dish washers, and then we do not really have any extra time. We have fast food, fast cars, drive through banks and still no extra time. I don't like planes either. Just in my life I know my grandfather was killed by a drunk driver, my friend's husband's dad was killed by a drunk driver, another friend's 15-year-old grandson was killed by a drunk driver, my husband's nephew was killed by a truck, but the driver was not drunk. Then, a fast ambulance might come and save your life or another person.
