What a contrast!
American pragmatism and Rilke's poetry!
You know, whenever I get exasperated at German conservatism ... I think of people like Rilke and Albert Schweitzer, even the leaders of Germany during the 2nd half of the 20th century and currently. Some of these thoughts can bring tears to my eyes.
Americans (and Germans) tend to place real value on efficiency. Yeah. Sure, that's fine ... I like it
. But, love is what makes us human.
