Wow, that looks great. What an awesome garden room. I would be so tempted to plant vines all over the walls.

BTW, at this point , I've spent less than $200 on the project.

Now, if I add pea gravel, that will up the price a bit. The bird netting to cover the entire top should be around $30.

Tanks, I would love to grow pole beans on the fence itself, maybe one side though, I don't want to block out too much sun.

I enclosed my little greenhouse/ cold fame with plastic today. I moved my seedlings out there and planted several more.
Not to sound too lame oar anything but I have never sprouted seeds early. What do I do with them now? Do I just let them grow for a while then move them to the yard? Will the tp rolls be enough for them until they go directly to the garden? What types of plants did you start early? Thanks in advance, gina

I would let the sprouted seeds get about 1-3 inches tall, then decide if you want to transplant them into bigger containers or directly into the ground.

If they are indoors, they are going to need to be hardened off.

Perhaps move them from the windowsill to your outside structure for a few daylight hours per day at first, then bring them back in for the night.

Then steadily increase the amount of time they spend outdoors until they are fully acclimated to the outside weather conditions.

I have so far planted lettuce and chinese cabbage from seed, both are sprouting nicely.

I have other crops in toilet paper rolls that have yet to emerge, more of a wait and see at this point.

Don't be afraid to experiment and learn from the early seed propagation process, most likely you will experience failures, but you learn from that.

What zone are you in Tanks? I have some good size sprouts I know I'll have to repot inside for now. None can make it outside until March for sure. Most of the seeds I planted were this week and will not be big enough to harden off until March anyways.

I was concerned about the 5-6 I have which look like in 3-4 weeks they will be too big for the TP rolls?!

What plants did you start early anyways?

(I so wish I was near Beavis... that would be my dream zone... though I do enjoy the restful thought of winter)

I actually do live near Beavis. I am a bit closer to the coast and about an hour north. I think.

Anyways, I planted about every seed I had. Just to see what would happen.. Tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, beans, lettuce and a couple other things.

I have never had any luck with planting, plants from the garden store. It seems the ones I direct seed always take off and do so much better.

This year I have three new garden beds. I have filled them with a combo of horse manure and compost. I just cant wait to get them started. They currently have some lettuce and broccoli in them. I plan to do some canning of veggies this year and want to get started asap.

So I started the seeds just after Christmas after seeing the toilet paper rolls. They were sprouting in 5 days. Now some of my cucumber sprouts are about 4 inches tall.

Again after seeing Beavis green house I got to work and built a little cold frame. Now I just need to learn how to incorporate it into my normal routine.

He is such an inspiration. It's nice to find someone near me. Usually I am a bit lost because most posters have such a different climate than I do.

Gardening is allways a learning process, something new every day.

I want to plant blue berries if anyone has any advice. :D

Wow... go Beavis!!!

I'm glad you are having such nice weather. It was warm for a couple of hours today and then got cloudy and the temp dropped... like... a LOT!
:hu

I can't believe you've done that all for less then $200. I haven't been keeping tabs on $$$. I know my fence was $300, but I got a LOT more fence then what I used in the garden and I bought it last year to just have it. I spent $25 on soil but all my wood was free from dumpster diving.

Don't you have another raised bed going too? I'd like to see that set up as well? I'd like to see what you already have going... I can tell you've been doing this gardening thing for awhile now! LOL :watering
