Several interstates are closed, major bridges are closed, and the Mississippi River is expected to crest on January 3 at the same record high level it did a few years ago. I hope the Corp of Engineers don't decide to blow up the Bird's Point Levee, like they did in 2011. The St Louis area is having major problems with the roads flooding.
We are safe here in the hills, so far. I wonder about @dickiebird , though.

I have been watching the flooding on the news, it is awful that so many homes are under water. Fire and floods are two things that you'd better run from. Both are devastating. Glad you are ok, stay in those hills! Is @dickiebird close to the flooded areas?

My sis lives in MO, but on the opposite side of the state as So Lucky. My bil's family lives around St. Louis and down So Luckys way. I haven't heard from her for a few days. I'll check in with her tomorrow. Hope everyone is safe.

I guess the only thing that's happening in the MidWest that's kind of good is that it won't be raining upstream for several days. This is what I just read this evening from the NWS Weather Prediction Center:

"The good news is that the Ohio Valley and Mid-Upper Mississippi Valley will be mostly dry over the next few days ..." They put a "but" after that because it will still be raining in the Southeast and the lower Mississippi/Gulf Coast area where flooding is also occurring. You can click the "graphics" link at the bottom of their webpage.

I'll put this here in case some folks having real bad weather are not reading the thread about the snow in the West. It is just amazing:
An unusual thing that just happened was that the North Pole hit 32°F for a high ... LINK!!. I can't call it an "afternoon" high since there hasn't been even a peep of sunlight at the North Pole in quite awhile! THAT was the MidWest weather a couple of days ago.

We're fine here, live up high and the biggest thing is don't try and get into St Louis as all east/west highways are shut down.
The hwy we live off of was kinda bottled up today as traffic was detoured off of I44 and shot up hwy 30 to St Louis.
I think this is going to be worse than '93 if only because of all the new levies and paving over of fields for housing developments.

All of my family is on the Kansas City side of the state. KC gets flooding, but it seems like not near what the St Louis side of the state gets. I usually just read the online daily news to keep abreast of the situations there.

Glad you are safe, @dickiebird. I agree this could be worse than '93. I saw footage of I-55 at Arnold on the news last night. Only one lane open, and they said the water was rising a foot an hour.

Oops! My bad. Not a foot per hour, but an inch per hour, according to the morning weatherman.

Around here today some things got better and some got worse.
A few roads were reopened and a major hwy was closed most of the day.
We don't have any phone service and they're saying it'll be Sunday before it's fixed.
Just thinking but how come I have the internet when it comes in on the phone line.
Go figure!!!!
