I think we are doomed, and I am complicit.

i try not to be, but i'm surrounded...

from what i've read the cleaner a plastic is the more likely it will be easily recycled. unfortunately after a container leaves here i have no control if it is actually recycled or not. i do not keep more than a few types of containers for using here because i don't have room for them all. i only use a few for some plants on the table here until i give them away aka rehome them.

At least I use almost nothing made of plastic in gardening. My tools and fences are steel, and garden decorations and containers mostly metal, wood, and glass.

add stones, bricks and cement chunks to that and i'm doing about the same.

Well, not fully for gardening, but as chickens are living in the garden - part of the garden anyway. Yogurt containers for oyster shell and roasted egg shells for the hens.

We have hot weather ahead for the next few days so trays of soil blocks and a couple of plastic bins full of seedlings will be spending their time underneath our old rabbit cage, with row cover pinned over top to help hold in moisture. When it's time to water the entire cage can be lifted off to access the plants. They are on the north side of the house where they receive morning sun, shade during the hot part of the day, and then evening sun for a few hours. This set up will foil the birds from disturbing the blocks that have corn seeds, but we have tent caterpillars crawling around and it won't keep them out. Hopefully not too many of them will sneak under the white fabric.

Kind of off track but not really; years ago I “recycled this well drilling bit; some turbine blades, a couple horse shoes and a couple engine connecting rods into this Goose; which is the guardian of the greenhouse!
Nothing practical or really useful but a great conversation starter!

What a creative use of materials, and the end result is fantastic!

Had a good haul on recycling day yesterday. The dark resin cutting board will be used to cover seed bins to keep the seeds moist for germination, and the two big planters will likely be used for cilantro. The white waste basket will be set upside down as a temporary cover for tender seedlings like peppers, to protect them from the elements and critters. ♻️
