Im familiar with Blanding turtles but being from the Great Lake State well...... shame that people have to mess with them. Ignorance so brutal sometimes.

Saw a few turtles out the other day when it was really warm. They were all snappers through and looking to cross from one side of the gravel road to the other to disappear into the cattails. But today its 28 degrees, woke up to a dusting of snow and the winds howling something fierce out there. Its like the beginning of March all over again.

Yesterday I was rolling up the white plastic pieces that are left that had been set under 2x4's to hold them down and out came a beautiful tan brown sort of "tabby" colored Lizard, one of the blue belly types. It had been I guess hibernating in there and almost seemed dead. Looked close I saw it was breathing. Touched it a few times to wake it up and all it could muster was a slight open mouth protective threat look eyes open. Went about my business for awhile, came back and it was gone. Guess it's alright.

Lizards are definitely my bug patrol. Every once in awhile one will get a seedling. Seems like the young ones do that, but it's a small price to pay.

Oh. Just realized. This year I have not had nearly as many spider webs as in previous years. I like those. Sure hope the spider webs happen soon.

Frogs and Salamanders are of course Amphibians.
Did you know that many insects make the same proteins that Fungi make? Chitinous proteins.
Lizards, Snakes, and Turtles are Reptiles.
Did you know that Phylogenists decided around 1996 that the suspicion that birds are actually Dinosaurs is true?
Did you know that us placental Mammals are really amazing in evolution? Such an amazing mix of traits. Our skin has amphibious traits more than reptile traits. Our jaw is more reptilian than amphibian, but is uniquely different than both.
Did you know Abyssinian cats are sooo different from British Shorthair cats they are even held differently.

So many beautiful things in this world!

The only one awake, (kinda) around here is Franklin. He's our box turtle, he has a winter hibernating home in the house. Once it warms up he lives in the greenhouse. I don't usually see any garter snakes until sometime after Mothers day. The are sooo cute, though my DH doesnt think so. He wasnt too happy when my girls brought one home and made a house/terrarium out of Franklins cage....and then escaped 4 days later. :idunno.Oops! I know he just slithered his way through the greenhouse and back outside. However we were still in trouble on that one..lol

Marshall, it's not hard to make a connection between birds and dinosaurs. If you look at a big lizard's eyes, it's just like looking at a chicken's eyes.

I haven't seen any toads or frogs or snakes or lizards in my yard this year yet. Things seem kinda slow. On summer nights we get several tree frogs that congregate on our kitchen window, where the night insects are attracted to the light. The frogs have a feast just about every night. We have counted as many as 8 at one time.

I'll put this here since they are reptilian food :D.

I saw 3 butterflies yesterday in the garden!

We have had one 70F afternoon in 2013. Four March days, the thermometer reached 60 and four days in April the thermometer has achieved the same "accomplishment." Yesterday it was 60 but wind gusts of 35mph didn't make for a pleasant afternoon.

One butterfly was an Admiral, I'm pretty sure. He came down twice on some wet ground but both times when he lifted off, he kind of disappeared in the wind. The other 2 were cabbage moths . . . hey! I'll take anything I can get!

:) Steve
