On yesterday's evening TV news program ... A lady who lives in Vancouver, Wa. quit her well paying teacher job to rescue dogs. She had been travelling to Los Angeles and to San Diego to pick up dogs from their local rescues to care for them in her home in Vancouver, Wa. until she can adopt them out herself . Currently she has 19 dogs. She has to approve of the people and personally inspect and approve their housing before she allows HER dogs to be adopted . Her husband had to find a second job to cover their lost income from her quiting her teaching position. At her interview, she is looking for a part time job ,even flipping hamburgers to make repairs to her van and to pay for her mortgage on her home , so that she could continue her trips to rescue dogs from "horrible conditions in S. Cal.". " please donate $$$s to help her cause ". The 2nd news report was a lady who had her barn burn down where she kept her " rescued dogs". She managed to save 8 dogs but 14 were burned to death. The City of Portland had closed down her rescue operation a year ago ( 2915 ) in Portland, Ore.. So she opened another facility in the County , however she was closed down by the County health department and not having a business license. So she moved the dogs to her rural home. Please donate to her rescue cause. Mental issueso:idunno

IF she was a responsible dog rescuer, she would have kept her well paying teacher job to pay for her hoarding tendencies. However, she chose to plunge herself and her idiot husband (who should be running far, far away) into penury over stray dogs. He should file for divorce and skip the 2nd job. Both are stupendously stupid.

I would have to agree with most of the previous comments. Good intentions are commendable, but the sane approach is to do what you can, within reasonable limits. Unfortunately, good intentions are often used to justify compulsive behavior - and these both sound like such cases. Both those individuals need mental help (and marriage counseling), donating money to feed their compulsions would only make things worse.

The TV news stations are now the biggest enablers of those that need mental help because they always say " donate now to help these types of rescue causes ".

I see on Facebook - Found dog such and such road. Looking for owner. Then the comments. STUPID people not keeping their dog in a fence. Poor dog, I WILL TAKE IT. There was a story of a young black lab found by neighbors in lake trying to stay afloat after ice broke. They got him out and to the vet. No collar or chip, but I can tell you that in this area there are NO stray dogs in the city limits. He belonged to somebody. Healthy and young, but within 3 days he was adopted out from shelter over in Washington. Older people might not even know how to contact a shelter. I don't know, but they go way beyond SAVING the dogs around here.

Three days doesn't seem long enough to me to reunite him with his owners.
