My Vet keeps between 4-6 rescue Samoyods (s?). Many have health problems, but she adopts and keeps them until their lives are over. Several are over 12yo and look great!
I have had to give away kittens this year and I don't look to give more than one to anybody. I believe that if you take one cat or one dog you are doing your part, along with spaying and neutering. Still have to catch the female barn cat that has had two litters last year. Her last batch of 4 female kittens will be gone end of the month. I have two takers and the rest will be given away at the horse auction on the 21st. I will try again to capture HER in late March and get her fixed, since she will need to be crated for a week to recover. Her daughter has been spayed and we kept several of her sons. One is a beautiful grayish blue. Right now I have 11 cats, but I can justify the seven I am keeping bc we developed a rat problem from the owners of the "zombie forclosure" across the street, who never cleaned up their garbage. Haven't seen a single LIVE rat since mid summer, but I've seen several dead ones, caught by my cats!
Also, last winter I was fighting mice, now NONE in the house!

I don't want to come off as heartless, but we are talking about animals. I'm all for prosecuting animal abusers. Make them squeal.

Fact that dogs are killed (I'll use a harsh word) does not even rank in my top 10 things to change in life.
