Interesting, greenthumb- I didn't know that...I will look into finding that. And catjac, I will cut it back and give it another chance, what have I got to lose? Too cold to take the dirt out to the compost pile anyway!
I have had a rosemary in the window sill since last spring. It seems to thrive on getting dry in between watering. It was never in the ground. I have never had good luck bringing in plants of any kind from the garden. I have a few potted things that I have put outside in pots and then brought inside in late fall. I have a basil that looked near dead in it's pot and is back in the greenhouse flourishing for it's second winter. You do run the risk of bringing in pests. I think when you did a mature plant too much of the roots get disturbed. Shouldn't stop you from trying, though. Next time bring in the puniest plant and see if that makes a difference.

The white fuzz Sparks talks about is spider mite. They do love rosemary and can kill a large plant.

Every spring I plant rosemary in the garden. I buy little 6 inch high plants. They spend the summer growing in the garden and once the weather starts to really get cold I dig one up and stick it in a small pot. I trim off the roots that don't fit into the pot (I can see the look of horror on your faces now). I then stick it in a south facing window. Once a week I take the pot and place it in the sink. I then fill the sink with water just to the top edge of the pot. I let it soak for about 10 minutes and then let the water out and the plant goes back to the window. It thrives!

I cut rosemary for cooking all winter long and when the weather gets warm I put the plant back into the garden. At the end of that summer I will cut and hang that one to dry and take one of the new ones to get me through the winter.

Rosemary is very hardy. I lived in Las Vegas for a while and rosemary is used for decorative bushes around the house. It grows everywhere. Once while we were in Sacramento California we needed some rosemary for Risotto and walked down the street, cut some off a neighbors hedge and threw it in the pot.

Welcome Boni, Glad you are here. I think putting your plant in a sink of water for 10 min. once a week is a really good idea. Do you do that with other plants also or just the rosemary?
