In your Bay Area climate, wouldn't a Camelia or Azalia be a better choice ? :hu

Bobm, NO. Why would I trade this beautiful smelling rose that blooms almost year round and is low maintenance?

I wish I could grow camelias. Once I bought one back from a trip to Florida, had a beautiful double white flower. Would over winter in my living room. Every fall it would be filled with buds. No matter what I did, after coming inside the buds would dry out and fall off. For 5 years I never got a flower. I gave up and left outside one winter, spring it was dead.

I took out a camellia once. They make such a mess dropping all those flowers that I won't have one again. I've had azaleas also that I've taken out. Not worth it to me to just get blooms once.

Last spring I planted 7 hybrid azaleas from Lowes in 1 gal. cans. They started to bloom a week later, then for 3+/- months straight . :celebrate
