On June 14, 2012 I started replacement cucumber seeds and cloned replacement tomato plants. The cucumbers were potted and placed in the greenhouse a few weeks ago, and last week the replacement tomatoes were potted. Hopefully these will last until November.

Jackb, your tomato clones look marvelous! Mine look dead  Guess I'll start over. haha
I am happy with them. You could never get a seedling to be that size in five weeks.

So do you cut off a limb and get it to grow roots? In water or damp sand? Rooting hormone?
I cut off the leader, or a sucker, and dip them in rooting hormone. The cuttings are placed in a grow cube and grown indoors under fluorescent lighting until roots are sticking out of the cubes; usually about a week. Then I pot them up. Here they are on 6/12/12.

I guess this wouldn't produce tomatoes this year, since it will be late in the season by the time it gets big enough--unless you are growing it in a greenhouse with lights? I meant to start some seeds late, but the extreme heat and drought sort of took the fun out of gardening for a while!

I plan on limiting each plant to two trusses to force the growth into the fruit, and, I will also clone a few to grow indoors under LEDs during the winter.

I pretty much have something growing all year round, as I also grow indoors. This year I plan on a few tomatoes, cucumbers, salad greens, asters and carnations just to fool Mother Nature.

I'm going to try peas again and some greens. I have some cauliflower seedlings, but I've NEVER had any luck with cauliflower. I'm going to seed broccoli, altho it might be too late. I have a feeling it's going to be a long fall, tho.
