One of my first baby chicks from 2008, Lady Rosalind died today. She was fine, her comb was a bit pale, but it does that from time to time, so I wasn't concerned. Yesterday for some quite unknown reason, when I put new water in the pen, I picked her up and told her she was a good chiken.

This afternoon, after running some errands, I came home went out to give the chickens some treats,
and there she was... dead as can be!

Here are a few photos of Lady Rosalind as a Memorial.

First day home with all her sisters in the coop.

Sorry for your loss :hugs I have Barred Rocks too, it's easy to get attached to them. They are a wonderful breed. Your girl was a doll, I love the pic of her on the basket. She looks like she's posing for you. I love your sign above the nest box, you must have taught her to read. ;)

Oh, sorry to hear it! I have had two of my girls (from 2008) just die for no apparent reason... Remember, spring is a great time to get new chicks....

Everyone, I will miss her. I think you get more attached to the first ones you get as tiny chicks.

I have 4 hens that are about 2 years old now. I am thinking of getting a couple new ones. Maybe when the nights are consistantly warm here.
