I don't think that it is from another horse bite since a horse' s front teeth are just as close together as a human's are except for the side of the mouth wolf ( canine ) teeth , and there is a space of a couple inches between the incisors and molars. Since there are even spaces with hair still in place ( horses do not have fur ) between the scrapes, so it could be from a piece of mechanical equipment, broken overhead branch that the horse went under or it took a roll and managed to scrape itself on some rock. :idunno
Nice teeth!

I'm all jealous now!

Just think how well aimed spitting could be with teeth like that! Bullseye every time!

Yep, though I've never smelled a horse, I vote with Thistle on this one. :)

Bobm, what piece of mechanical equipment are you thinking of? I don't think a broken overhead branch would have cut that fur, I mean hair! so cleanly.

I used to see marks like that on my horse all the time. They came from her pasture-mate. Of course, since Gail was 16.2hands and Becky was a very small Sheltland, the marks I found were usually on Gail's hocks, elbows and chest (as high as Becky could reach)

Top photo is before straightening the front teeth, where is the after ? The 2nd , this photo illustrates an example of checking the age of the horse ... they loose their middle front two teeth at one year of age, then the second pair at age two. etc. which brings up the old adage ..." don't look at the gift horse's mouth " !

My husband said it was aliens.
Hubby is probably right ! Aliens tried to abduct this horse but in the act of it's escape , it scraped it's back on the UFO's door. Also , it answers Mary's inquiry of what type of equipment that caused this loss of hair in a pattern shown.
