Season started.

Today I washed and disinfected the interior of the greenhouse, mixed enough potting soil for the Autopots, and planted six tomato plants on one side of the greenhouse. Tomorrow I will tackle the other side of the greenhouse, but for now, I am ready for a nice nap.

Thanks. Today I planted peppers in the autopots on the other side of the greenhouse. Also, I had to mix soil and find every spare pot I could so I could up pot the tomato plants destined for the garden. I am still several weeks from being able to plant outdoors and the plants had really outgrown the starter pots. Frost is in the forecast for tonight, so I am setting the heater in the greenhouse to turn on from 8 pm to 8 am.

Oh, if case anyone is wondering what is behind the black shade cloth it is a cymbidium orchid that I am determined will bloom this year, if it does not, it is history.

If you look at the photo of the tomatoes above you will see a large green tank on a stand in the upper right corner, it contains water and nutrients. The water and nutrients will be supplied to the plants through tubes and valves in the base that the pots are sitting in. I have not connected the valves or tubes yet, as I like to top water until the plants get established. The valve is sort of a float valve and only adds liquid when the liquid in the base is almost gone. The system works by gravity and was initially called Autopots, today it may be called some other name. If you do a google search you can still use autopot.

There is no specific list for beginners, but you might do a search on the particular topic that interests you and read the posts. There is a lot of gardening talent on this site to assist you, so don't be afraid to ask, as we all had to start somewhere.
