That is what the plant looks like dormant have not seen it in bloom! As for the mushroom hunter never considered calling it that but yes I go on hikes just to find mushrooms actually I look for them well... Everywhere!Here's a dormant siberian iris. It is quite different from regular irises. Smaller bloom and the foliage looks like thick grass.

I've never tried to grow them from seed, since I've had plenty of starts from splitting those that were already here when we bought this place. I'd love to know if it can be done though.
And wild iris could fit the bill too, but since it was in someone's yard, I'd say it's less likely. I've found them in the woods before, but they are smaller and I've killed the couple I did try to transplant.
BTW, are you a mushroom hunter by any chance?

What kind of mushroom is that in your pic? We like hunting morels, oysters, boletes, puffballs and sulfur shelf. I got a good ID book for Christmas this year, so I think I'll start bringing whatever I find home to try to identify them for fun.
