seed starting medium

Has anyone used either of these for seed starting? Looking at using the black bag but the site I was using had no reviews so I wanted to see if anyone had used it and how well it worked. I'm not certified organic but still try to stay as organic as possible. The white bag has a chemical wetting agent mixed in that makes it not be considered organic.

have been using sunshine to start all my seeds, since the seeds have everything they need inside them, once it's time to re-pot them do a 50/50 mix of sunshine and fox farm ocean forest.
my train of thought is to keep it simple at this point, spend my money on keeping the soil in the garden healthy.

once again everyone has their own preferences....

Where do you get those products? hope its ok to mention a company but I mainly use greenhouse megastore and I don't think I've seen it on their site and I don't think I've seen it at any local garden centers.

sure there is a shop near you that sells them, if not... if your live near columbia or summerville can get it for you and ship down on one of our shuttle trucks for you.

a good brew/hydroponic shop should have it ....

At one time, the Sunshine (Sun Gro) and Pro Mix were owned by the same international corporations. I don't know if that means that they were the same products. Now that they are separate companies, Sun Gro also makes a "professional mix." Confusing.

Sun Gro is/was a Canadian outfit. I use their Black Gold organic. Not because of its special seed-starting qualities but because I started using this general purpose potting soil years ago. Once trying something different resulted in a near catastrophe! I just had time and seed enough to start over again. That brand was from an Ace Hardware store but I don't remember the name.

We have both brands locally, as is Fox Farm. I would imagine that having such items shipped any distance would be expensive.

I live in the NW corner of SC so no where near either of those lol. For the last couple years I've used the small cheap yellow bags of seed starter from the local walmart but with all I have to start this year I'm looking to get larger bags so its more cost effective. I've heard and read a lot of good about promix so I may just try and use it this year. Just can't decide which I want to go with.

Hello Dirttiller25, I am new to the forum, I live in the mountains of NC. The Fafard and SunGro are available from Southern Agricultural Insecticides in Hendersonville, NC. They have a web site but no prices on it. I have been using their products for many many years and won't use any thing else. I don't know how far from here you are, I am about 2 hours or less depending on how you go, from Blairsville,GA I would suggest that you find a grower of just about anything, annuals, perennials ect, and find out what they use and where they get it.

That's how I found my starting medium, I asked at the local Mom 'n Pop garden center what they use and go t the same.
