A few years ago I did a trial in my own garden to see if a seed planted plant would produce more and /or grow better than a transplanted plant would. My results were amazing! My plants that were planted by seed directly outdoors produced and grew 4 times more than the transplanted plants of the same type. The produce from the seeded plants was healthier looking and better tasting than the produce from the transplanted plants.

The problem with the trial is I didn't take pics. So I will be doing the same trial this year in my own garden so that I can document the difference with photos and just because it's great fun to do these kinds of trials.

I am inviting anyone who would like to do this trial in their own garden to post your progress and results here for everyone to read.

When I said I started plants from seeds, I meant seeds outdoors in the ground, not started indoors and then planted outside. You're welcome to plant by seed inside or outside in the ground, but please note which area you started you're seeds when posting so we can better understand your planting methods as we watch your progress.

The two groups of plants should be as identical as possible, same type of plant, same fertilizers and amount of any fertilizers. Of course the plants need the same exact care if possible, same amount of water, etc.

Please join me in this trial in your own garden if you can!

I think this is a really cool idea and would be fun too! I plan to join and hope that others will as well. I just need to know what seedling varieties are readily available in my area.

Sclanimals, do you think we should avoid this trial for squashes, as they are supposed to not transplant all that well to begin with? I was considering trying this with zuchinnis, but thought there might be a bias in working with plants that don't transplant well.

Also we should probably note if our seeds came from seed companies or was self-collected.
