I live in a rural farm area where my family from my moms and my dads side are farmers. I have a hard time finding any farmers who are supporting this bill, In fact I havn't talked to any who are. If you watch the utube video Im not sure who posted it, the senator is admiting that govt is the problem. The TSA nightmare is a perfect example of over reaching by Govt, and disreguarding the rights of free people. I was taught when I was young that it is our resposability (civic duty) to stay informed on the issues and to vote. I also know that having folks on both sides of any issue, be they polaticians or regular folks like us is healthy for a democracy. So far this has been a great topic here, lots of differing veiws and ways to look at SB 510. But I for one want to see this Bill fail to become a Law. (But thats just me)

Yeah, that TSA mess is exactly what I was thinking of when I said once we go too far, we have lost and they have won. Determining what is too far is where it gets hard. What is really required to prevent another Lockabee or 9-11? I'd like to see Oklahoma City thrown into that discussion, although I know that is not about airport security. Are we willing to accept that another Lockabee or 9-11 can happen as a possible price for maintaining certain rights and liberties? Are certain losses acceptable? Would you like to define an acceptable loss? Not me, thank you.

I'm pretty strongly in favor of our government trying to assure that shrimp and fish raised in China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Columbia, wherever, and sold in the US to US consumers in competition with Amercian products are not raised in sewage. I'd like some assurances that American shrimp and fish is not raised in sewage. I favor the meat, eggs, or lettuce sold in our supermarkets not be tainted so it is killing or making very sick a lot of Americans. You help accomplish that by trying to prevent it in the first place, then by tracking down and quickly eliminating a problem if it does occur. How far do you take that? The federal government is usually limited to international and interstate commerce. They usually leave things that stay in the state up to the individual state. To me, that is a reasonable boundary. Some individual states take it a lot further than others.

I think these are very serious topics that need to be discussed to try to find a solution. I think the answer will be continually moving as circumstances change. I think that anyone that tries to prevent a serious discussion on the topic by spreading misinformation and appealing to raw irrational emotion based on faulty information is not helping but instead is hurting.

If you read my posts, I hope you will not see anywhere that I am in favor of or against S 510. I'm against misinformation being put out about S 510. For the record, I do think the pat downs are going too far. I think it means we are losing. I don't like them, but I don't think the full body scans are going too far as long as it is not available for public viewing. But that is my opinion. I have absolutely no problem with someone having a different opinion as long as it is an informed decision and they actually understand some of the consequences. They are also entitled to an uninformed decision, just don't expect me to take them seriously.

No I dont think you are for or against RR you are trying to look at all sides and be balanced. Some parts of the bill do have merit indeed. But like they say the devil is in the details. (I dont know who"they"are though).
