We had the worst storm of the season roll through yesterday evening. Extreme winds, thunder, lightening, rain and...HAIL!! Much of the corn is down for the third time this year, about 5% is snapped off. It's already pollinated, so I'm going to leave it as it is. My beans were tore up pretty good, but not as bad as the winterfare. The wind and hail toe them up real bad. I'll post pics later.

Totally different situation than yours but I had my first storm last night, 2 of rain and a hard wind. A rotten oak tree fell onto our private road. A neighbor had it cleared enough to drive past before I knew it had happened. My corn was also flattened but it had mostly made it back up by mid-afternoon. The rain fell hard enough that some ran off and did a bit of washing, but nothing severe. Anything that did not immediately run off soaked in. The ditches had patches of water in them this morning but no flowing water. It was that dry that it immediately soaked up.

Im so grateful. Thats enough rain that the pastures and hay fields will turn green again. Its already noticeable. The rabbits and grasshoppers wont all have to go to my garden for something green to eat. Ill probably have to go back to watering in about a week, but I have a lot more hope for my late-summer garden.

I did go out first thing this morning and pick all tomatoes that had started to turn. Theyre on a table in my workshop to finish ripening. Id been keeping the ground damp under the mulch, but with all that rain I was afraid they would split. The green ones out there still might but hopefully I got these in time. Maybe a gallon.

WHOA, you guys have had some tough weather to contend with. Guess that's an advantage of having such a dry climate...we get so little rainfall normally in the summer that we dont really have terrible storms like that. Actually, now that i think, we did have a little hail. But its pretty rare. Good luck with the cleanup!

:( I hate storms!!! Plus I was worried about the car we just purchased getting a mangled from the hail.

The garden looks pretty bad. Hope the corn comes back.
