Seedcorn, those photo's you got in late . . !
lower 1 (lour, lour) also lour (lour)
intr.v. lowered also loured, lowering also louring, lowers also lours
1. To look angry, sullen, or threatening. See Synonyms at frown.
2. To appear dark or threatening, as the sky.
n.
1. A threatening, sullen, or angry look.
2. A dark and ominous look: the lower of thunderheads.
Should look up the history of that word. It doesn't seem to have much to do with the other "lower" as in to place low. Rather it is all "menace!"
