Severe Weather?

In this part of the world, about 120-130 years is kind of standard for the earliest record-keeping.

What about "back east?"

(You know westerners, you are ALL "back east." It takes something other than state boundaries to think in any other way. Moreover, even Minnesota is "back east" as far as most of us are concerned.)

we had a cool front come through last night. today was quite nice. tomorrow morning we are going to break records. it will be cooler than the record set in 1924 in the morning. I can't wait! i'm going to open the window tonight! it's going to be 68 or 70 in the morning!

It is 107 in Phoenix on that "sticky" from the earlier post (link).

Not too far away from here, it is 108 in Hanford, Washington.

Here are things in this part of the world right now . . . in fact, they are things in your part of the world, too. That is, if you live in North America and just "grab" and slide the map around. It just starts in my neighborhood:

Oh Good, DL!

I was thinking that it was so strange for someone in Arizona to be happy about a duststorm and flying beetles the other day!

You were right, they brought rain!

Steve :)

desert lady, so glad you got your rain. it's a wonderful thing.
have been grieving for the firefighter's families. how terrible for them.

It's been raining here for a week now. Not a constant, all day rain, but off and on showers everyday. I was hoping the cut-off low would finally move away, but then another formed over the western Great Lakes. The jet stream is now moving nearly south to north, right over us and pulling gulf moisture along with it. No end in sight for all this rain. I'm becoming a little concerned. The beet leaves were actually a little wilty yesterday. I have good draining soil, but there's a limit to everything.

Normally by this time of year the ground is dry and hard, sending the moles deep. They are having a heyday in the yard, pushing up little mountains everywhere. I think I'm going to pull on my boots, load up the 12 gauge and do a little stomping and blasting.

we're dropping down into the lower 70s tomorrow & into the mid to lower 60s tomorrow night. never in the history of Texas' summers do I remember such a cool front this time of year. we're supposed to get some rain on Monday too! unbelievable
