I looked back 6 years bc I thought that we had a sewing, etc. thread, but we do not. Several members do sewing, quilting and other textile projects periodically, and I have been posting my projects, as they happen. I am starting with a simple project, a Christmas gift towel calendar that was not quite ready to hang. I folded over the top and hand basted it. I had a problem with sewing with white thread OVER the year, 2025, so I decided to leave a 3 inch strip unsewn. I finished with a "dunno Where it came from" :hu stick bc the previous cloth year calendars wooden dowel was broken, and finished with a navy blue 1/2 inch ribbon, tied on to hang. IF the 3 inch strip starts to sag I intend to spot hand stitch, but I doubt that the weight of the towel is going to do this.
Anybody else? I don't want to monopolize this new thread, and I, personally, will be happy to see photos of your previous projects. You NEVER KNOW where you are going to get good ideas!
For those you have constructed garments, I watched a Nancy Zieman program where she suggests trimming the seam along a neck edging instead of clipping it.
I have Always been dubious of clipping notches right next to a sewing line. Pattern directions still tell you to do that.
You NEVER KNOW who you may inspire!

I have done a LOT of sewing in my life. I have made dresses for my two girls, bedspreads, blankets, curtains, tablecloths, ditty bags, tote bags, couch and cushions covers, decorative pillows, pillow cases, quillows, canvas covers for many things on our sailboat, new sails, ornaments, Halloween costumes, jackets, skirts, and dresses for myself, many mending/repair projects, and more!

i have sewn since i was quite young (on a Singer Featherweight which i still have) and can do the basics, but i am not a patient person at times so most of my work is not the pretty kind. doing patches on jeans and sewing hems on cutoffs or jean legs that are too long and needed to be shortened are probably the most common things.

at one time i was trying to get the neighbor to teach me tatting but that didn't happen before she moved away.

with Mom still doing her quilting and other sewing she has a much bigger and better simple machine that is strong enough to do leatherwork so sometime in the future i may try some of that. except, i'm not really liking to do a lot of sitting these days so maybe that won't happen after all.

Was that duck canvas that you used, Dahlia?

Did you know that duct tape was actually made from duck canvas. There was broad application and it was known by that name. Material became varied as time went on. So, there's some history for the next time that you have someone try to correct you for calling it duck tape instead of duct :).

... i'll, uh, show myself out ...

That is an impressive amount of sewing projects. Creativity must be in your jeans. Would you believe I never had a sewing machine ?
