Jacket and ties should be illegal when it is over 80 degrees and humid. last night I took friends to dinner at a restaurant with dress code, was brutal. Woman are so lucky, hot weather put on a summer dress go anywhere.

It's been quite a while since I went to a restaurant with one of THOSE dress codes. I just don't move in those circles. I don't always wear jeans when I eat out, I do have some nicer pants, but a coat and tie is only worn for certain functions, usually related to church in some way, some funerals and weddings for example. In many churches coat and tie is no longer expected. The one we went to in the New Orleans area made a big deal of a casual dress code for summer and they did not kick you out if you skipped the jacket and tie in winter.

Some women do wear those skimpy holiday dresses but I've noticed a lot have a very nice pants suit that works or they carry a nice shawl or other top. I guess it depends on the circles you move in and how well you do what is expected. I know some people can get in a snit if you don't meet their expectations but in some ways I've been a disappointment to some people all my life.

Never been to a place that would refuse service--unless broke.

I suppose your resteraunts aren't in need of business. I'd walk out, take my $$ with me. If the elitist don't like eating with the unwashed, so be it. It's their business, their rules. Luckily I have peasant taste buds.... :)

Nyboy, you are certainly welcome to come go slumming in Texas. We have a spare bedroom and we'll treat you to the small town Mom n' Pop cafes around here. Flip-flops, tennis shoes, shorts, blue jeans and shirt is perfectly acceptable. If you just want to wear your suit and tie, we'll go find some floosie-doosie high falutin' restaurant in Tyler.

Our town doesn't even have a restaurant that requires a coat and tie. And I'm trying to think...I don't believe I have ever even been to a restaurant that has that kind of dress code. Maybe when I lived in Seattle, way back. My (then) in-laws took us to a fancy restaurant or two.
Apparently I wasn't sufficiently awed. The only thing I remember was when my BIL ordered Drambuie and the waiter brought him Crab Louie salad.
