I wonder if there was a difference in the kind of breakfast eaten, such as those who ate only a bowl of cereal, or only donuts and coffee, or eggs and bacon, or oatmeal and fruit.
It's going to hurt my feelings if people eating donuts and coffee for breakfast are less likely to gain weight than breakfast skippers.

I'm still trying to do the 3 servings of fruit before anything else.

DW doesn't care much for canned fruits but she likes dry fruit for snacking. Breakfast is cereal, either hot or cold, 90% of the time. A serving of dry fruit is about 1/4 cup. Raisins, figs, prunes can go in either cereal. A banana and an orange are nearly always on the kitchen table.

Soon -- Fresh, Local Fruit!

Last summer I made zucchini muffins with raisins and nuts, pretty often. They were really good, and a batch of muffins had three packed cups of shredded zucchini. That was a pretty healthy breakfast "pastry".
Most mornings I have a smoothie with frozen berries, a banana, milk and a raw egg. (I know, I'm going to die from the raw eggs :\.) I feel it is enough nutrition, but I get hungry again in about 90 minutes.

... load it up with plain yogurt and some sriracha sauce ...

Wow. I hadn't thought of using a hot sauce in a blueberry muffin!

Yogurt. I can fathom how all that might be good. Wow.

@so lucky , that sounds healthy. I don't go for raw eggs anymore and smoothies never struck the right cord.

Hungry in 90 minutes ;)? I'm up so early and have committed to waiting 4 hours for breakfast to settle my stomach that I often have what could be another traditional breakfast with my coffee. Often, that's French toast. Sometimes, I'll have cold cereal early and hot cereal late ... still with the fruit but I'm not quite so committed to 3 servings by then.

Summertime, I'll have the coffee on the go with nothing accompanying. However, my lunches are so early that it's still well before noon (usually between 8:30 and 10). By then, I'm okay with green vegetables :).

i like a bit of heat on almost everything. hot chocolate, jams/jellies, salads, cheese sandwiches, ... sriracha sauce has become my ketchup replacement.

i understand about not wanting to eat when first waking up, i used to be like that too where i would wait several hours before i'd try to eat as it made my stomach queasy. the past year i've been trying to get in the habit of eating pretty early after i wake up and i don't have that problem any more.

first thing i do now i drink a glass of water and then try to eat within a half hour of that... some days i get distracted and forget until my stomach makes noises at me.

as for raw eggs, trying to not eat those any more, but once in a while i like a soft-boiled egg, or sunny side up and my worst temptation is raw cookie dough... i've been eating that all my life and it hasn't taken me out yet... :)

Every trainer I have had and have gone though a lot of them try to make me eat breakfast. The only thing I have for the first couple of hours is coffee.

I'm not hungry for breakfast. It's just that I always feel better almost immediately - more energy!!

Coffee could probably do the same thing but I'm convinced that both the bitterness and the caffeine add up to bad news for my stomach. If I toss some refined sugar in, it would guarantee a stomach upset! Cruelty!

It's also a meal where simplicity can rule. A good time for routine.
