We came home tonight to a tremendous stink! A skunk sprayed somewhere near our driveway and the smell outside is awful. And with the ac running, the smell is in the house now too. How long does it take for the stink to dissipate outside? It's horrible!

Oh poor you!! Probably take 3 or 4 days anyway. We had a malamute once that chased a skunk under our friends house where it sprayed. We were embarrassed but really glad we could go home to our own unskunked house that night!
You have my complete sympathy!

could have sprayed the foundation of your home. it is quite common around my area. especially if they had been cornered by a pet right by it. :(

Years go, we had a skunk spray under our house when I was about 2 months pregnant. I had to move out of the house for 3 days. It was still bad when I came back, but at least I wasn't falling on the floor gagging any more. I think I remember boiling vinegar to help dissipate or cover the smell. Maybe the same effect of tomato juice. I feel your pain!

Thankfully, where it sprayed was far enough that it didn't get the house. Unfortunately we drove thru the odor with my windows down. My car smelled this morning, so it's sitting out with the windows open. Going to spray it with a vinegar solution and hope that cures it. And it doesn't smell nearly so bad outside today, but I guess we'll see how our 100 degree high affects it.

I guess I'm weird (no-I know I am  ) I don't find the smell of skunk all that repellant so long as it isn't overpowering. I love the friendly critters.

When my Dalmatian was a pup she used to play with a skunk. At least until it finally sprayed her. The stink lasted for months after using every fancy de-skunker they make.

I always thought marigolds smell like a skunk, but I like the smell of marigolds, and hate the smell of skunk. Go figure.

I hope your dog learned a lesson. My brother had a lab that LOVED to go after skunks. Digger never did learn to leave them alone. Tomato juice made him bearable outdoors (not in the house.) I have heard that DIET COKE works! Worth a try if it happens again. :sick
