Slow tomatoes

I do that, too :P!

My technique is to allow juice from the 2nd bite to splatter on my shirt front . . . When I leave, I know that I've got a few seeds glued there amongst the buttons .

Steve's digits

nice to know about the earliness of this "black" :). Thank you.

Due to bad pests lately, and disease issues... I wait until there is some yellow/orange/red just starting on the tomatoes and pick them then. Then I let them finish on the counter. I do this more often in September so I can get the tomatoes OUT and the cool weather crops in!

It seemed like mine took forever as well! Then I went out one afternoon and noticed my first ripe one. So I checked my other plants and picked 20 more! I had one that had a dozen ripe ones right in the center of the plant that I hadnt even noticed. Just wait, you'll see green one day and an explosion of color the next pretty soon. ;)

We're getting down to 57 tonight! And only into the upper 70s by the end of the week. The weather is lovely, but not good for my veggies!

My garden is very slow this year also. :idunno

I have heard that you can cut the roots to speed up tomatoes. You take a knife with a long blade 8" or so and cut down one side of the roots. This causes stress on the plant and it go into hyper drive and ripens quickly. I would only do this if you needed the tomatoes and are not going to continue with your plants for the rest of the season because it does harm the plant.

I just started my first batch of pickles today. Last year I was almost done with cucumbers by now. Weird
