Small Red Birds at Feeder Ny

The bird may be a Purple Finch, you might search an image and compare them.

I have seen several of these small birds at our feeder lately. After looking it up I believe it is a Carolina Wren, and if so it is a long way from Carolina here in New York.

My DH put up a new bluebird house yesterday, and a couple of house wrens have claimed it already. We knew it might be late for bluebirds, but we have found they like weathered houses better than fresh wood. It can be ready for them next year.

I have had that problem in the past. To (sort of) insure getting a bluebird family, I have two bluebird houses near each other. Just as two bluebird families won't get along, two house wrens won't build nests that near each other.

That way the second house is free for the bluebirds when they finally arrive.
