Some of what I’m growing....

Here are a few of the things I’m growing this year... I can’t wait to have a true veggie garden again! It’s been several years of just growing in patio pots — while i love having the fresh yummies right on the patio, I can’t wait to have more growing space!

Cucumbers and marigolds, and self-seeded pansies.

Marigolds and what I believe is a volunteer pumpkin... should be fun watching this one sprawl! It should have planted itself in a bigger pot! This is the backside of the pot, spun around for the photo. The other side is full of gorgeous marigolds.

Tomato and annuals

Tomatoes and marigolds...I went bonkers for marigolds this year!

Annuals.... this lobularia is crazy! One of several I’m growing. Love it!!!

This years porch decor - old sink... i plant in two rectangle pots that fit side by side in the sink.

Not too happy with how this planting on the milk can is coming in, but it is what it is. It’s the verbena I’m not loving in this. Can is from a local creamery that at one time my great aunt owned - and, Grammas old leather boots.

Seriously... chaos by the porch! These are two pots sitting on the outside edge of the steps. These purple flowers are going crazy this year! And those orange zinnias are one of my very favorites.

That milk can is very special, it's neat that it's a family piece.
Sometimes I get plants that don't live up to what was going on in my minds eye when I planted them, they just sulk while the others go gangbusters.

Yes, I’m a crammer ... Ha! Hey, i figure, the more the merrier...!?
Last year the sink planting wasn’t really very organized, and I didn’t like how it grew in. Last year, it was more of a jumble of the left over odds and ends of triple- and four-pack annuals. This year I went with a more purposeful planting, and like it much better, but still would make a couple changes. In the books for next year!

Bacopa usually grows in much better than it has this year. It seems to be struggling this year, regardless of where it’s planted.

I do five large deck plantings for a client, red white and blue every year for their 4th of July party. They are on Hayden lake and don't want anything with a "thriller" for height so that they can watch the fireworks unobstructed. I plant them all identically, but it's odd how some of them have different annuals that do better in one pot than another. This year the red diascia is overflowingly beautiful in one pot, nice in a couple, and just sort of there in another.

I learned something important in this years planting. I bought lovely red Dipladenias for the center, thinking I would keep it low enough to see over from the deck chairs. You know how in June you can cut a lot of perennials and annuals low and they will stay shorter for the rest of the season?
I thought I would be clever and sort of stunt the dipladenias by trimming them down to 4". That was clever all right... they are alive but not even peeking above the lobelia and diascia yet and I'm sure they will not bloom this summer. Such a shame because they are a deep blood red, and would have really "made" the planting.

Such pretty flowers! The few that I have in pots never do that well. This year I have several pots that I didn't even plant.

I think your containers look nice. Did you start all those plants from seed? DW started all her flowers from seed this year and it saved a ton of money.

About half/half — we have a good greenhouse here that has good prices on petunias and other filler annuals so I buy some of those. I can only start so many!

I know where that is and have been there a few times not lately though. DW likes the plant farm on fourth ave They are kind of spendy but a nice place. There are things she wanted but had no seeds and did not want to splurge on them lol. Funny because we used to buy 90% of the flowers and spend plenty now she refuses to buy them.
