Ava wanted her own tree, so naturally we planted one. It definitely has the female touch, and of course what else would you name an olive tree but Olivia.

Kids love gardening if you can make it a fun project.

Jack, that Ava has good taste. My granddaughter's name is Olivia. No wonder I have a soft spot for her! :)

Happy Thanksgiving Mary. I think Ava was thinking of Olivia the cartoon character on Nick Jr. You can tell I watch a lot of Nick Jr.

She does not want to take her plant home but would prefer to leave it here so it can be with her goldfish.

I am always so out of the loop. Who is Olivia on Nick Jr? Even though I have a 2 1/2 yr. old grandchild, I don't know any cartoon characters. I shared with my family your story about Ava naming her olive tree Olivia. They thought it was cute.

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving too, Jack.

Oh silly me, now I know who she is! I'm big into books and I always wished "Olivia" had been a cuter character. I haven't bought my Olivia any of these books because I think the little pig is kind of ugly. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. :/;)

I totally agree with you, but apparently kids have different tastes...

It has been just under four weeks since it has been transplanted and switched to hydroponic growing and the Arbequina olive tree is responding nicely. It is being grown indoors under LED lighting until I can open the greenhouse again in late March. Ava and I are naming all of the plants with names appropriate to the country of origin of the olives, Ava is in charge of selecting the names. We have Ferdinand and Isabella from Spain; Omar from Tunis; Terese, Antonio and Mario from Italy; Pythagoras and Alexis from Greece, and of course the Arbequina, Pepito, also from Spain. So far, so good.

I really think they may make good container/houseplants. Time will tell.

My daughter Eve is 7 and I was showing her Ava's touches in the greenhouse thinking she would want to help me more. Nope she didn't look at all impressed. Maybe it was because it was the little green giant. She did ask for a wheel barrow for Christmas so she can help move flowers in it. I wonder what she will say when I put zucchini, peas, beans, cabbage, and the like in it for her to bring to the house?
