I don't see this negativism around my rural area, but, boy don't venture into any larger city....or if you do, be sure to carry heat!!!!

Wait, what? Is that who I am? I hope not...although I realize my shortcomings and triggers, even if I don't always have them in hand.

Anyway Steve, you're safe, I wouldn't dare do that on this thread,
talk about spotlights! And also I can't even remember the context for that quote.
I don't always play fair, Thistle' :). Of course, some abuse is helpful, sort of like root pruning ;). If you want to see the context, you can just click the up arrow in the quote. Actually, I think it is very much in context and that is why it occurred to me :).

I might have used Debbie's quote in that thread but I was thinking that since I was first reading what she had written while I was having lunch, it was likely that she had already had lunch and was about to go home from a somewhat difficult workday(s).

I have a convalescent at home and haven't been doing much but caregiving lately - not visiting any big cities or anything. Lunch was Cream of Carrot Soup with Sour Cream. I also made another apple upside-down cake and had that for dessert. Dinner this evening was a simple affair - fish chowder & more of the cake, yeah. I used both tilapia and smoked salmon in the chowder but can't even claim the potatoes were from my garden. I have been thinking about @HiDelight 's recipes lately and how she shared so any with us! I might be quoting her at sometime in the near future :D. TEG is becoming quite a resource.

Crime - I remember reading about a US Air Force pilot about 15 or 20 years ago. The homicide rate was higher in those days and somehow he made a statement in response to some gangster saying that he could "take out" anybody he chose to in their urban neighborhood. The fighter pilot said that maybe that guy could but he flew an airplane with a weapon big enough to take out an entire block!

The media wisely did not publish his name but, of course, everyone knew that the tough guy was talking trash compared to the level of destruction a member of the military was capable of. I remember reading later that the fighter pilot was in some trouble with his superiors for saying this. Bragging on either side of the line isn't very smart and destructive behavior is destructive behavior.

I think it's everywhere. I get the same thing. And it's really "in the air". You're doing it right.
Like water that flows between the sharp stones. She has no control over these rocks, of course. It changes them. Slowly but change stones. And the stones will never be able to scratch the water.

@Larisa - I really like that - especially the bit "The stones will never be able to scratch the water"

Last Friday, the ultra "progressives" had a un-permitted protest where they tried to cross over bridges and onto I-5 to stop all traffic as well as doing property vandalism that they already done. The Portland, Ore. police blocked the bridges and had to use smoke bombs and tear gas to disperse the protesters. Today , this group of protesters is calling for the Police chief to resign for "police brutality" to stop their freedom of speech and vowed to disrupt all activities and businesses in Portland, Ore. today starting at 8:00AM . :idunno

Something in the air...literally, over the airwaves. I am avoiding the news at all costs right now. Really sick of all the drama. It does tend to drag a person down. I've got young kids to raise, a new puppy to train and a cluttered house to clean before spring so I can go outdoors and enjoy the garden and sunshine without guilt. No time for drama in my life. Makes me want to move out back of the deepest holler and go off-grid.

I stopped watching the news a long time ago, and don't get the paper anymore. Now and then I'll catch a news station in the truck, but mostly listen to a music disc. If it's something major I figure I'll hear about it and can decide if I need to know more.

(I know, cd's are so outdated! My truck has a cassette player so a disc feels so cutting edge. :p I have to use a portable player that has a cassette that slides into my trucks player to work with the radio speakers.)
Works great for me.
