Something Olde ;)

Voltron - First Episode Sept 10, 1984. Yeah, my oldest son enjoyed that. Transformers was probably his favorite. Can't say I remember the Raccoons.

Over the years we've had posts and threads where people pretty much gave away their age. Of course I'm too polite to mention their names but I can only think of two current active members older than me. I'm impressed by their energy. I grieve many of the ones we have lost. I know of several that are just a few years younger than me. I occasionally remind some of them to respect their elders. And with it being the internet, there are several I just don't know so I try to treat them with respect. With some that's harder than with others.
You left out HeMan and SheRa, AND, of course, Animaniacs.

Aside from Bugs & company, this was one of my favorites. Also Astro Boy & Johnny Quest... I got interested in SciFi very early, when I picked up one of my father's John Carter of Mars books (he was a big Edgar Rice Burroughs fan). I think I was in 5th grade at the time. Later I "borrowed" his copy of "The Long Afternoon of Earth" by Brian Aldiss. About that time Star Trek came out, and I was hooked.

I also started Sci-Fi early. In Third grade, we read Ray Bradbury's "There Will Come Soft Rains" in School. Later I began listening to old radio show's on tape and shows like "Dimension X/X-1" lead me to a lot of other writers.

for us the cartoons were the loony tunes and rocky and bullwinkle, super dog and a few others.

for me i did always read a lot more than i watched tv.

for science fiction and fantasy the all time favorites are Dune and The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. i do have more recent authors i also enjoy, but i also love the connection that one of my all time favorite authors has to the books of the past in that he helped put the Silmarillion together.

Strongest memory of tv was Captain Kangaroo, with Mr Greenjeans and Bunnyrabbit. That's how my Mom discovered I needed glasses at 3 yrs old. I insisted on watching it from 6 inches away.
And try explaining to kids today about turning a crank to pump fuel out of a tank into a glass jar with measurements on it, so it could then be sold and transferred into a car. (@ 25 cents/gal).

@Rhodie Ranch , the gas station in your Oregon town was the last place I remember with those pumps. The attendant would crank, and for $1, Mom would buy 4 gallons :).

Do you suppose kids these days would appreciate the jokes we used to tell? Grandparents, you should give it a try.

Gramps: Knock Knock
Kid: Who's there?
Gramps: Boo
Kid: Boo Who?
Gramps: No need to cry, it's just a joke!

Steve ;)

OMGOSH!!! Somebody ELSE who remembers Captain Kangaroo, with Mr Greenjeans and Bunnyrabbit!! When I moved from PA to IL, NOBODY had ever heard of them.
I felt SO ALONE!! :hit
That and I spoke funny...

I grew up on Captain Kangaroo. I don't remember any gas stations with the glass jars but where ever we got gas, we got free stuff. Cups, glasses, etc. The cheapest gas I remember was in Georgia for 13 cents per gallon.

Also I can still remember the taste of Green Stamps. Any my tele number in Amarillo began with OL8....And it was a party line.
