Tastes vary.

I was surprised that I like them! They are as Mary describes, IMO, but I have yet to buy them from the store. They have a good deal more flavor than tofu, which seems to have practically none.

It is another garden veggie that I am happy to have discovered and be able to grow. That one variety proved very productive thru about 4 seasons. I just have to learn to use them up fresh as edamame (& freeze them) so that I'm not faced with making tofu ...

Sounds great, I like peas and just about anything nutty. I think I'll grow and make my own though, don't want to support the mega-farmers that are logging the area so they can plant it with GM crops and poison the soil. I've actually never seen soybeans in any form sold at the stores here. A lot of the stores here do have some unusual vegetables, although mostly of hispanic origin (large Mexican immigrant population here).

Another question (actually two)- are soybeans inbreeders? Are they attractive to pollinators?

Soybeans are self pollinators. Bugs come to soybeans but bees are not attracted to them.

I'm gonna start a thread on Brussels sprouts.

Now if SeedC' and SeedO' both admit to thinking that they are "the best in the world," it's gonna just floor me!

I would have but now I won't as I don't want you getting hurt hitting the floor.

I have found the frozen edamame to be a bit tricky to prepare, especially if you havent had it fresh and know how good it should taste. I think the 1 time i got it and it was bad tasting, i overcooked it. It also needs copious amounts of salt :) but i like brussel sprouts too!
