Way back when gold was found in CA, they penned Gold Country as being on the western side of the Sierra Foothills. In fact, I'm 10 miles from Angels Camp, where Mark Twain penned about the jumping frogs during the Gold Rush in the mid 1800's. :frow
My favorite place in the Mother Lode is Columbia! My boys and I enjoy visiting the Falloon Hotel. They have some interesting and delicious ice-cream flavors. One of my favorites is blueberry cheesecake ice-cream!!!

We also like to climb the rocks. Someday I want to ride the stagecoach.

We plan on spending the 4th of July in Columbia for the Independance celebration. They start off with firing an old Civil War cannon. I'm hoping my boys will participate in the grease-pole contest ....

I would have finished cleaning the garden today, but it's been pouring!

Zone 8 here too, as you know, but all I have in the ground currently is onions.
Hey Jordan ... !!! Nice to see you here. My green onions are starting to grow flower buds. Haven't opened yet. I like to let some of my plants grow flowers, especially carrots ... !!!

I think I'll collect some green onion seeds this year, if the birds don't get to them first.

vja4him...Sorry about the worms. I can't help you there. I have been lucky and have had no problems. Snails are sometimes a pain but I just try to pick them when I can.

Where are you located? Can you update your profile? That will help us to know your climate, etc.

I tried starting seeds in pots for the first time. They took alot of work and worrying. In the future, I will probably do only basil. I am having great success with planting directly into the ground. Last weekend, I put my basil and bell peppers into the ground. I covered the basil with plastic take out soup containers to protect them from any snails and the rain. It's working great!
