it just means he may be a little more temperamental. after all he's not 'fixed' or gelded. doesn't always mean they are going to be aggressive and might be ok as a first horse depending on the handler.

should edit this: as long as the 1st time handler is working with someone who has experience to teach them.

No. Not for a beginner.
I have a mini stallion (not a beginner) and he's really not studdy around here.
BUT he definitely gets perky and animated when we go for trots around the gravel roads and he sees other horses. I can see how if he were being handled by a beginner he could over power them, and he's only 240 pounds.

There's lots of nice geldings to be had out there.

Amen. @catjac1975 is absolutely right.

When I first got into horses, I begged the nearest stable to let me scoop poop in exchange for lessons. I didn't know anything about horses. They put me on a 5 year old green broke appaloosa mare for first lesson. It bucked, reared, bolted, and spooked at everything. Remarkably I never fell off, but I also don't ride anymore. Buy an old plug!
