Starting Tomatoes from seed

They need constant air circulation too. This will help if they are getting to much water as well as a few other things. If you start to see them falling over from right at the dirt you are not getting them enough moving air. Most people don't realize that is just about as important as feed and water it to a plant.

Hi there! :frow

I would would water them with a solution of water & Epson Salts ( buy from pharmacy). I always try this first when I see yellowing leaves & it works most of the time. Give them this treatment every day until they start getting greener.

Hope this helps. :D

When I plant my tomatoes I put a spoon full of epsom salts and a spoon full of bone meal into every planting hole. The magnesium and ....is it sulfur from the epsom salts make the plant stronger and fertilize while the calcium in the bone meal prevents blossom end rot.

I use it on any plant that starts to have a yellow tinge to the leaves -- always have -- learnt that 65+yrs ago from my Grandma :bow :love it's my first line of defence! So I was really interested that farmerlor puts it, along with bone meal into the planting holes for tomatoes. I'll try that myself this year --THANKS, farmerlor! :frow

Well just to update and THANK YOU all for the advice and tips on my spindly yellow little 'mater plants... I planted them layed over with just the leaves above ground and not only put a spoonfull of epsom salts in the hole with each plant but alos watered them with a soultion of epsom salts for the first week. They got frosted, I thought they would die for sure...but this is what they look like now, with blossoms! Thank you all for making me realize that I CAN gorw tomatoes from seed! They are doing better than the one I bought from the nursery!!!!

Hi Sparkles :frow

Great looking Tomato plants. :celebrate :celebrate I am so glad they did well for you. It's great when something so simple works.

It's so nice to see the photos of your success & to hear that your home-grown plants are doing better than the bought-in ones.

I have been experimenting with watering my seeds, seedlings & transplants with aspirin water. I have been really surprised by the fast & good germination of the seeds. I will definitely continue to use it. I learnt about the aspirin here on TEG ! I've been gardening for 50 years or more & I still learn so much every day. I have had so much advice & help, especially for things I have never dared to attempt growing. I am even trying to grow melons this year..............!! So far, so good....... :fl

Good Luck with your crops! :frow
