I still have some hope for the bok choy and fun jen. The lettuce is too tiny despite the fact that it is bigger now than when the 1st frosts hit.

The fun jen suffered quite a bit when the temperatures dropped into the low 20's and teens almost a month ago. There's some scarring of the leaves.

Bok choy looks fine but there aren't enuf plants for more than a single serving at the size they are now. All of these things were planted on the bed that grew potatoes and they went in later than I've ever planted. I got one nice harvest of little bok choy.

Every morning there's frost but there have been some very nice afternoons, up to 50F, today. And, even when it hasn't warmed that much and there's been zero sunshine, the weather has been mild without wind.

We have been promised that rain is coming tomorrow and perhaps in a few more days, snow. That will likely be the end of the story.

I've run a lawn mower over the large veggie garden and used a corn knife on the cornstalks. The plants in the annual cutting garden have been pulled, a couple beds dug out to about 10 inches, and the plants buried. The little veggie garden has been tilled with the rototiller. I've got a bed with some late-planted onions for next year. All that's left for 'o9, is that 1 bed with a few greens . . .

LOL... isn't it great!? I have cabbage, carrots and broccoli still going of course... BUT I also have still been collecting eggplant, radishes and potatoes just finished up.

Most of my flowers are still in bloom! I still have petunias going, still have Canna's in bloom... still have black eyed susans, BES vines as well, Lantana, gerber daisies, blanket flowe, foxglove.... its amazing!!!!

I can't believe of ALL my fall flowers though, my coneflower which was the last to die off last year, is the only one that is done right now?!

So, its November? Really?!

My lettuce, spinach, carrots and peas are growing like, um, weeds right now. I'm holding out hope that I will have a homegrown salad on Thanksgiving!

I am really pleased with the fall garden idea. Especially, because here in zone 4, our growing season is so short. We have had more frost than I count- and I still have broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, swisschard, beets, and a few die hard flowers (snapdragons, calendula, borage...)I just harvested carrots last weekend. I am hoping to get more of the chard harvested this weekend. My only regret is that I didn't get my basil harvested before the frost....next year!!!!

My garden is pretty much a clean slate at this point. I like looking out on it and enjoying the finality of late fall. Makes me feel like I can take a little rest now (and focus on some canning and craft projects that I have piled up).

Just cleared the last of the peppers out Tuesday. I let some keep going to see just how much frost they could take. I've got all my fall planting and dividing done except for a few iris (better not let that go too much longer). Other than the garlic patch, the only things left in my garden are some parsley and sage overwintering, some leaf lettuce I'm going to put a hoop cover over and a handful of beets that didn't get washed out on my last planting.

I have a few petunias hanging on, tucked in some frost resistant corners. Oddly enough they look so much more lush and happy right now. And two very late and very stubborn hollyhocks still lingering, which I greatly appreciate for their vivid color.

I've got the whole yard cleaned up and tidy and the tools all put neatly away. It's a good feeling!

We have had one or two good frosts, so most of my garden has quieted down for the winter, but it amazes me that just a little protection (like on our deck, that has a roof over it, or in our greenhouse that is just covered with plastic) I still have flowers blooming and warm season vegetables puttering along. Just a few degrees of protection can make a huge difference.

lesa, even though I am supposed to be zone 5, I plant for zones 4 and 3. The weather here is too unpredictable.
This may explain the month noted in the subject line . . .

As someone who has long tried to keep track of Colorado, I can almost ;) fully understand what Wifezilla is telling us. Up and down, down and up, blazing sunshine, crushing hail, heat, wind, snow . . .

Wifezilla, did you get snow already?? I saw some ugly stuff on the news. I feel really unlucky to be in zone 4- but it could always be worse, I suppose! Being able to plant cold weather crops does help extend the season!
