Its been rumbling and thundering and lightening all week... somedays we see a sprinkle here or there, but mainly its just dark, whipping winds and lots of lightening leaving the power flickering.

:watering :coolsun :watering :coolsun :tools :watering :coolsun

So I got out and tried to water a bit, but my plants are so beat up from all this I had to spend the last hour and a half cutting bamboo and tying up tomatoes that were flopped over with many broken branches. I pulled off all the tomatoes with blossom end rot caused from the lack of rain. I had to tie up cantaloupe vines, cucumber vines that were already ripped off the trellises. I have a bunch I have to go back and finish but the heat is just killing me! :coolsun

I'm lacking tomato cages, so I found a bunch of tomatoes that just popped up on their own so I'm going to go transplant those now. I still have weeding to do (did 30 minutes of that before 8:30 when it wasn't so bad out), but I really need to go at those with a weed whacker they've gotten so out of hand in my paths. :mow

Maybe when I'm done cleaning up this MESS of a garden of mine, I'll take some pictures. My hands are bleeding right now from being whipped with raspberry canes earlier, so I'll have to finish off those monsters before I can take proper pictures. I just hope by the end of the day, when its all said and done... that its really done. I'm already worn out and I still have to go grocery shopping and pack boxes for customers from yesterday. Just not enough hours in the day sometimes! :idunno

I feel your pain, vfem! (or should I say, I feel your sweat!!) :p

Every day "they" say it's going to rain...then nothing!!! Just clouds, heat, wind! :(

My metal cages were all blown over last weekend...I got up to find every plant on the ground. Now the 'maters are staked & tied with old pantyhose; broken vines cut off, BER ones flung over the back fence...

At least my blackberries are going great guns! :D

Sorry to hear about that vfem :hugs .
That's summer for you, lots of thunderstorms and lightening.
Yeah definitely tie up those tomatoes and cukes, the wind can damage them. Bamboo works great for making trellis, that's what I use every year.
I understand you have so much work to do in the garden you hardly have enough time left. I just try to do one thing at a time, if I don't get to it, I will the next day.

I hope your garden recovers fine!! Take it easy! ;)

Well, I got one more bed weeded. Its been so bad I needed that bed after all. My herbs in the pots I went out of my way to set up this year are not producing and look so pathetic I am giving them a raised bed to enjoy.

As soon as I get those planted (after I've stopped to have lunch with DD) I'm going to flip on the sprinkler, throw on my bathing suit and just lounge out in the yard under the sprinkler. The garden and I can share for a bit, I need a good drench too!

I don't think DD with have one complaint if I throw her bathing suit on her and let her run wild in the yard too! :weee

Usually I don't have this many repairs to do all at once, I usually have maybe 30 minutes of work at a time so I take it slow and it just gets done as I have time. However, I have to work tomorrow and Saturday... and going to the beach Sunday. So its now or never, and I hate being rushed in my garden, it is my favorite past time... long as I'm not overwhelmed with it all the time! :tools

I feel your pain too vfem. :( We finally got some rain Tuesday night and Wednesday morning - not nearly enough though. The temps finally came down to the low to mid 90's, but the humidity is almost unbearable!

A lounge by the sprinkler sounds great! :p

It really poured here a couple of times- I was thankful for the rain. Last night I was digging in the garden and an inch down it is still dry as a bone!! Nature is just not cooperating with us this year! Enjoy your down time with your little one- somethings are more important than others!!

Well, our fun in the sprinkler ran short. Another storm warning and the dark clouds and thunder forced us to pack up our chairs, grab a towel and head in.

Wow... I had to fix one more tomato under the sprinkler in my bathing suit, and found a TON of stink bugs in with the plants as well. So we were squishing, and staking and pinching flowers off the basil. We were cool and able to clean right off in the sprinkler right then and there. It was actually amazing! I don't know why I don't turn the sprinkler on and do more garden work that way... its completely bearable soaking wet! HAHAHAHA :weee

We need a rain smiley! ;)

Anyways, garden is done, even most of the weeding in at least 1 garden area. I'll see if it actually rains or passes again... if the sun comes back out, DD and I are going back out. We had so much fun together. I really needed that time with her... usually we're doing school work or cleaning these days. :caf

We're under a Severe T'storm watch down here. Not only could my garden use the rain, but we have a wildfire about 30 miles from here. It's causing things to be MISERABLE! Not only is it terribly hot and humid... but now it's smokey and "snowing" ash!!

Thankfully we don't have the ash here but for 2 days we did the have the thick smoke because the winds were blowing out way. There was also a 'controled' fire in Fayetteville adding to the frustration!

It just rained here for about 30 whole blessed seconds...

...just enough to get everything wet, but that's it! The deck dried out in about 2 minutes.

We had that smokey haze a couple days ago, it was hard to even go outside. Happy 3rd day of summer! :tongue
