Check out Pink Lady apples from the supermarket in late spring for sprouted seeds in the core. You can use the apple seedlings from these as standard apple root stock or to experiment with seedling apple trees. You never know what quality of apple you'll get with open pollenated apples, but the Pink Lady apple usually is already sprouted after such a long time in cold storage. I've seen several seeds with roots and one with tiny leaves already this year in Pink Lady apples :)

Seedlings Planted!!! They are picking up nicely,(they were a wee bit curly when they came out of the Tomato)I'm looking forward to seeing what comes of them, I'll update on their progress (or lack of) as the Season progresses.

No idea what kind of apple will result tho, right? If I could be guaranteed a Pink Lady Apple Tree, I'd totally do it. :) Hell, I might do it anyway... I've got a couple Cripp's Pinks in my fridge. :)

You could get the next best apple in the world or one that you could only to make cider out off. Pink lady or Cripp's Pinks is one of my favorite apples :drool But, you could always graft a proven apple to them. I just thought it was neat to find the fully sprouted apple tree seedling inside the apple I bought at the store. The kids got a kick out of it too.

It can be fun raising mystery seeds :)

That's a good reason for buying from farmers markets or raising your own. They are always coming up with unnatural practices to increase their profits at the expense of quality.
