Before she went back to sleep, DW showed me that there was hot water on the stove for my tea and that she had made hot cereal.

She so often makes a combo whole grain cereal, and likes to keep several to choose from, I just assumed it was one of those. I went about preparing my fruit, putting a spoonful of brown sugar in my cereal bowl, and getting a big pat of butter. I knew I was taking some risk -- if it was Maltomeal, I'd want honey rather than that sugar.

Feeling every bit the daredevil, I noticed that green box of parmesan cheese when I reached in for the butter.

Well! I'm not crazy!!

What is under the lid on the stove? Cream of something-or-other! Blech!!!

Well, it was okay but I got to wondering. What would it have been like if I'd pulled out the parmesan ... yeah, and never considered a sweetener ... what could you do with this bland, nearly-tasteless cereal?

I feel for you gluten free people. Shoot! I coulda had a breakfast pizza. A little crumbled bacon! Learning something new can come in the most unexpected ways! Ya know?

What's wrong with Cream of Wheat? o_O
It fueled my childhood, but I haven't had it for a few decades. Maybe my taste buds have matured....

Since a friend of ours had a heart attack 2 weeks ago and a quadruple by-pass, dh has been requesting oatmeal for most breakfasts. He's also picked up his pace at the gym and gone for several bike rides.

I grew up on Cream of Wheat. Yet, never made it for my children and don't eat it anymore. I don't know why. I used to love it with butter!

Every AM, Mom made dad fresh biscuits, 2 fried eggs and bacon or sausage-except Sunday-pancakes. Me I'd get up and have cereal-sometimes malt o meal. Dang was I STUPID!!!!!! What I'd give for my Mom's biscuits, butter and honey.

When the kids were at home, I took over b'fast chores. Wife not a AM person. I served my DAd what I called French breakfast. Some kind of bread, fruit and cheese. Not much of any. When in France, that was what they thought breakfast was. Lucky I had a good layer of food over years stored up n my body.

You don't do this for your husband?

I want you to know I make my husband a hot breakfast Every. Single. Day.
Usually eggs and hash browns, his all time forever favorite, but lately it's alternated with old fashioned rolled oats oatmeal.
And I pack his lunch.
And he gets a hot dinner.
Something doesn't make sense, because I don't really like cooking that much.

I want a medal.
