Stray Cats

i have 2 calico kitties that frequent my yard. but they haven't been friendly enough to come see me. 1 has always run away when i come anywhere near. the other, a young one that i've only noticed for the past year, will sit about 15 feet away & then turn around & trot some distance off to watch me. no matter how many times i try to coax her over she still doesn't come close to me. most cats will come to me, but for some reason i & calico cats just don't get along. :idunno

I like cats, but DSIL is highly allergic and can't breathe around them. Rather have him than a cat. And my big dogs hate them and love kitten snacks. If they find a nest of kitties, they will eat them, just like a nest of rabbits.

At our old house, a neighbor lady was a cat hoarder and fed all the feral cats in the neighborhood. I had to put plastic forks, tines up, in the garden to keep them out. They peed on the porch and pooped all over our yard. I was not too enchanted with them.....

Chickie stray cats have it hard. People don't want them around so always throwing rocks at them. Once you loose a cats trust it is very hard winning it back. Bet those calicos have not been treated well in pass.

Maybe I am profiling, but it seems to me that calico and tortoiseshell (and its dilute, blue-cream) cats (always female, right?) are temperamental anyway. And some people just don't like cats, and vice-versa. My mom didn't like cats, but my cats from hell always wanted to love all over her. Go figure.

these 2 kitties belong to my neighbor across the street. i have no issue with the 2 since they keep any rodents at bay. i have yet to find them using the yard as a litter box but i'm sure they use somewhere else for that. they are not feral, but just aloof to me.

there was an article i read a few months back that confirmed my suspicions about calico kitties-the torties have the most 'cat-attude'. a friend has a mostly white calico that at first didn't like me. now i have figured her out & realize that i can't just reach my hand out to pet her like one of my own cats. i have to hold out my fist & let her give me a head butt & then she seems to be fine. i don't push her beyond doing that.
