Stunted peppers

Here's what I am doing with my jalepeno's. I'm harvesting, chopping them up, boiling them down and making bug spray out of them. I also planted 4 banana peppers, that DH said he wants to eat. THEY are never really hot--sometimes I even like them, too. Just a thought of what to do with them...

I guess location could be a factor. I have a nice loamy soil (sandy loam with a ton of work) but maybe they don't like all the rain of the southern summer.
My friend who gave me the giant jalapeos said he fertilized with a 13-13-13 this year for the first time and he said he really noticed a difference.

I bet your "southern summer" and "sandy loam" really requires a good deal of fertilizer to get you thru a growing season, O.

What I was thinking of with geography is that if you were on Avery Island there in Louisiana, you might be in the perfect location for a certain pepper. But, 200 miles away, you might be in the perfect location for a different pepper.

I can't hardly imagine that Louisiana would be somehow less than perfect for quite a few varieties. I bet there are several, however, that wouldn't do so well away from home.

Thank you for the kind welcome! I might just try the bug spray - I can remember that my mom did just that years ago - I think maybe she used tabasco peppers and garlic for hers. Anyway the jalapenos I gave my son in law he said were very good and most fresh he'd ever had! Our sweet bells are looking good too.

I don't do alot of fertilizer. It is quite hard to remember to do it or when you did it last. And I should write it down but never do. I think fertilizer or lack of could be a huge reason. I remember last year my peppers were scrawny and then I started applying blood meal and they took off. I didn't want to do it this year cause I read some freakish article on blood meal and mad cow and I got scared. (I am also scared of my compost pile right now, the rain is causing the snakes to come out and although I haven't seen one. I also don't want to).
