Just read an article about a June 2014 article in "The Independent" (UK) where a major study by the Karolinska Institue in Sweden showed that women who avoided sunbathing during summer were twice as likely to die as those who sunbathed every day. Overall sun avoidance blocks the body from producing Vitamin D which can lead to various forms of skin cancer.

DW takes a couple of meds that make her especially sensitive to the sun. She sees a dermatologist each year and has had a couple of pre-cancerous and one cancer spot removed from her face. I was surprised how very deep they had to go after the test of tissue showed cancer. Just the biopsy had removed everything that could be seen.

She also took vitamin D3 for years but is off it now.

When she is outdoors in the sun, she is wearing a big hat. She's got lots of them! She picks on me about short sleeve shirts but I have a hard time buttoning long sleeves at any time of the year.

She uses a sunscreen now and oil of Olay during the winter.
