After not being able to work for 2 years and 11 months, I started a new job, yesterday was a week ago. I work at a local (as in, 1 mile, as the crow flies, from my house) grocery store. Tonight I got the "ok" to take ALL the throw-out produce to turn into compost. Woohoo...ya'll KNOW I'm in hog heaven.
Last week and this week, I'm scheduled for 25 hours. The manager I worked with tonight asked me if I would be willing to work more hours. DUH !!!! LOL He told me to tell the schedule manager to up my hours as per him. Having had a business for 35 years in Ashford (2 miles away), I know most of their customers by name. He said he needed me working more cause of my energy level, friendliness with all the customers, and the fact that I, ACTUALLY, love the work and WANTED to work. Looks like things are turning around. It only pays minimum wage ($7.25 hr)......but the tips are OFF THE CHART. Am averaging almost $15 hr....with tips. It pays to be personable and friendly with the customers.
Now I know, for some areas, $15 hr is not much....but remember, I'm in ALABAMA.

That's awesome, Boggy. $15/hr is a good wage around here too. Hey, and don't forget to share some of your freebies with the chickens. We have one member on here who runs grocery store reject veggies through a wood chipper to feed to her chickens. If they won't eat certain things raw, like carrots, cook them first and try again.

Forgot to mention that I brought home 3 LARGE garbage bags of produce tonight. I will, definitely, share with Babygirl's chickens.

That's great news Boggy! Congrats! :clap
Its hard to get a good job nowadays with the economy. You have to take what you can get these days. That sounds like a pretty good wage.... don't spend all your money on the garden now, like me...:gig

Enjoy your new job! ;)

How do you get tips Boggy?

And should I be tipping my local grocer?
The tips come from bagging and carring out the groceries and putting them in the vehicles. But, tonight, I bagged a black guy's purchase (just 2 small bags). I didn't know him but was "carrying on" with him while he was paying and getting his change. He gave me a dollar just for bagging them (and, actually, being nice to him). As I thanked him and he picked up his bags, I reached up and patted him on the shoulder and said to him, "You have a good one, brother".....he turned around and gave me another dollar. I couldn't believe it. Didn't do any of it for a tip....didn't expect one since he only had two small bags....just being friendly. Reckon people crave that....just comes natural for me.

I am soooo happy for you Boggy. You diserve all the good things that come your way. Many people need kindness and that is something that not too many people do/give in general.

Because I know you are very kind, I have been meaning to ask a favor. Hint..it has to do with posting pictures! :D One of these days when I'm ready.

Hope more fabulous things come your way!
