i was just thinking of various critters prompted by this post @so lucky and it reminded me of the flies that bite on the hot muggy day when it is going to rain soon. for some reason they do that, but not other times... and horse flies as big as dive bombers or hummingbirds. those suckers hurt...

I used to work in a horse barn; the biting flies are the worst. Them and buffalo gnats. Vanilla works great on the gnats, with the flies? I usually copied the horses. Once I got enough of a layer of dust on my skin from cleaning the barns, I couldn't really feel them.

I have been very very lucky to never be bitten by a horsefly. I have been stepped on by frantic horses trying to show me where the nasty fly was biting them, though.
