Sweet Pea Planting on St. Patrick's Day

I wonder if the problem was the soil? I've planted peas successfully. MY problem (in 2011) was finding them amongst the weeds!!!! I found so many so LATE last year that I just saved the seeds. :somad
I've planted in compost that I moved to the planting site.
Question: Are we talking about peas (snow peas, regular peas, sugar-snap peas) or sweet peas (the tall flower), or both?
...confused...
Should I be putting my sweet pea flower seeds direct sow right now, too? I was going to start them inside, then move out seedlings.

oooooohhhhhhhh....I'm sorry! I probably caused the confusion because in retrospect I think this thread is about the flowers (considering it's in the flowers section) and I was talking about sugar snap peas! Blame me, I'm new to all this!
