And here they are, bigger than mama! The pale barred one is a roo, but at least I got one hen out of it!

This Friday/Saturday will be hatch day here. Nova, one of my speckled sussex hens, is setting on 9 eggs from a friend's hens. None of her hens want to be mamas and her incubator keeps going haywire, so she borrowed a warm chicken butt. :p I'm deciding if I want to keep one chick - just as a 'reward' for Nova's hard work. They are some easter eggers and some dominiques and one marans-x from my hen.
Hummm... I've been really wanting to add some barred feathers to my flock... :rolleyes:

Hey Red, you know how funny chickens look running? Imagine that 20-legged hen husteling across the yard for treats! :lol:


By the way Thistle. The friend who's eggs Nova is sitting on has a small flock of blue dutch bantams. TINY little things!!!

The chicks are roosting at night now and it's pretty funny to watch them try to get under Sweetpea. They knock her right off the roost.
